Abstract: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is a level 2 administrative area in the northeast of Pakistan. It is treated here as a province of Pakistan but the United Nations regards it as a disputed area that is administered by Pakistan. This checklist is dynamic, meaning that it will change over time. It is being developed from records in OpenHerbarium at the time of access, data in checklists published in various journals, and records in GBIF on 28 January 2024. The download from GBIF included all occurrence records for the province, not just those based on herbarium specimens. The names from published checklists are added as entered (other than correction of spelling errors); those from GBIF include both the names as provided to GBIF and as interpreted by that organization. This apoproach means that many of the names uploaded are now treated as synonyms. To enable meaningful comparisons among checklists in OpenHerbarium, the treatment of these names in OpenHerbarium was reviewed and, when appropriate, modified. In general, POWO was used as the standard for flowering plants; Pteridoportal for pteridophytes, and Tropicos for bryophytes. This standardization reduces the number of names in the lists but not the number of taxa. There are undoubtedly some taxa that need to be added and probably some that that should be removed because they reflect misidentifications, differences in taxonomic treatment, incorrect synonymizing, or taxa that should be noted as occurring in AJK only in cultivation. I encourage botanists at herbaria in Pakistan to link their specimens as vouchers to relevant names and to investigate the status of others. This will. of course, require entering their specimen data into OpenHerbarim, something else I enourage.
