Ray flowers pistillate or sterile; disk flowers bisexual, tubular, 5-lobed. Achenes flat, winged; pappuses usually of 2 awns.
Verbesina includes about 300 species and is native to the Americas, but one species, Verbesina encelioides is now established in many parts of the world, including Somaliland.
