Plants herbs or shrubs. Leaves alternate. Heads usually heterogampus, sometimes homogamous, solitary or in terminal corybs; receptacles without bracts, with scale-like ridges. Ray florets female, small, sometimes absent; disk florets 5-toothed; anthers sagittate and caudate; style branches linear, flat, obtuse. Achenes cylindric, 4-ribbed and angled, setulose pubescent on the angles; pappuses usually 2-seriate, the outer series of short, connate, scales, the inner of smooth or barbellate bristles.
Pulicaria includes about 77 species which are native to Europe, Africa, and Asia. There are 24 species known from Somaliland and Somalia, 16 of which grow in Somaliland.
