Plants annual or perennial herbs. Leaves opposite, simple. Inflorescences open panicles of capitula. Capitula heterogamous, radiate, with involucre of 2 series of phyllaries; receptacles with bracts subtending the flowers. Ray flowers many, small; disk flowers few, 4-5-lobed. Achenes of ray flowers trigonous. those of disk flowers flattened, tuberculate, truncate; pappuses absent or of a few short scales.
Eclipta is a genus of 7 species. It is native to tropical America and Asia. One species, Eclipta prostrata, is a pantropical weed. It is the only species of Eclipta to grow in Somaliland and Somalia
