Plants climbing, prostrate, or erect herbs or subshrubs. Leaves pinnately compound, with 3 or 1 leaflets; stipule bases bilobed or spurred, sometimes peltate, tips truncate. Inflorescences axillary or terminal, pseudoracemose or flowers in subumbellate clusters. Clyces 5-lobed, 2-lipped, lower lips 3-lobed, upper lips 2-lobed, completely or partly united; upper stamen in each flower free; styles straight or curved distally, upper part thickened, distal portion bearded or hairy on the inner surface, sometimes extending beyond the stigmas. Pods linear, cylindrical or flattened.
Vigna includes about 150 species, all of which are primarily tropical. There are 9 species known from Somaliland and Somalia, one of those listed in Flora of Somalia, Vigna macrorhyncha, having been transferred Wajira grahamiana.
