Plants lianas; stems silvery white when young. Leaf blades cordate to ovate-cordate, lower surfaces silky-white pubescent, sometimes glabrescent. Flowers axillary, in 1-3-flowered cymes. Sepals ovate to oblong, equal or unequal; corollas white, salverform; styles 1, 2-lobed. Fruits nearly dry,indehiscent or dehiscent and breaking irregularly; seeds glabrous, enclosed within a mealy pulp, at least when dry.
Rivea includes about 6 species, all native to tropical Asia. The flowers appear to be adapted to moth pollination.
