Plants climbing or suberect, usully perennial, herbs. Leaves pinnately compound, with 3 leaflets. Inflorescences axiallary, pseudoracemose. Calyces 2-lipped, upper lips entire or emarginate; lower lips 3-lobed; corollas glabrous; banner petals with short appendages on the inside; keels with beaks incurve at a right angle; anthers all alike; styles stiffened, laterally flattened, tips slightly curved, inner surfaces hairy;stigmas terminal. Pods compressed; seeds ovoid; hila linear with whitish arils.
Lablab includes only 1 species, Lablab purpureus. It grows in both Somaliland and Somalia.
