Plants succulent herbs; stems creeping, branching profusely, not jointed, rooting adventiously and forming large mats, 4-5-angled and spirally twisted, angles with stout, conical, acutely hard-tipped teeth; latex clear. Leaves absent. Inflorescences developing from near the tips of the stems, on 1-2 flowers. Corollas large to very large, rotate, with a short tube, broad limb, and recurved triangular lobes; coronas gynostegial, enclosed within the corolla tubes; outer lobes more or less saccate; inner lobes erect, with swollen tips. Follicles tapering at both ends, cross-sections somewhat flattened and elliptical; seeds with a tuft of hairs at one end.
Ceropegiea sect. Edithcolea includes only 1 species, Ceropegia grandis. Lavranos treated the section as the genus Edithcolea.It was placed in Ceropegia by Bruyns et al. (2017) based on extensive phylogenetic studies of Ceropegia.
