Plants trees of shrubs, dioecious. Leaves simple or even-pinnate. Inflorescences raceme-like or paniculate. Flowers radially symmetric. sepals 3-7; petals absent; disk reduced or absent; stamens 5-10, filaments very short; ovaries 2-4(-6)-celled; cells with 2 ovules, one ascending, the other descending; styles 2-6-fid; stigmas linear, often contorted. Fruits capsules, usually winged; seeds 1-2 per cell, without arillodes.
Dodonaea includes about 50 species. Most are native to Australia, a few are pantropical, and one is endemic to Madagascar.
One species, Dodonaea viscosa, grows in Somaliland and Somalia.
