Plants perennial herbs. Leaf blades cordate-reniform, petiolate. Inflorescences of soliary, axiallary flowers. Sepals ovate-spathulate; corollas somewhat shorter than the calyces, 5-lobed; ovaries 2-lobed, each lobe with 2-ovules; styles 2; stigmas capitate. Capsules 2-lobed, each lobe with 1 seed.
Dichondra is a genus of 15 species. They are native to Australasia and the Americas but one, Dichondra repens, is now widespread throughout the topics, including in Somaliland.
Plants herbs; stems slender, glabrous or pubescent, usually creeping. Leaves long petiolate; blades cordate-orbicular to reniform, entire. Inflorescences axillary, of solitary flowers. Flowers inconspicuous, greenish-yellow, pedicellate; corollas broadly campanulate, 2-3 mm in diameter, deeply 5-lobed, the lobes induplicate; ovaries usually 1-seeded, bilobate, the lobes distinct or basally united; styles 2, attached between the ovary lobes and appearing almost gynobasic. Fruits capsular or utriculate, membranous, irregularly bivalvate or indehiscent, usually 1-seeded; seeds subglobose, smooth.
