Plants climbing or erect herbs or shrubs. Leaves pinnately compound with (1-)3-9 leaflets. Inflorescences racemes with few flowers or axillary and of solitary or paired flowers; bracteoles large. calyces 5-lobed; banner petals large, greatly exceeding the other petals; styles bearded on the inner face near the slightly dilate tip. Pods linear-oblong, compressed.
Clitoriais a genus of approximately 66 species. They are native to the tropics and subtropics around the world. One species, Clitoria ternatea, grows in both Somaliland and Somalia.
