Plants shrubs, subshrubs, or climbers. Leaves usually with 3 leaflets; leaflets with small yellow glands. Inflorescences terminal or axially racemes. Calyces 5-lobed, lobes subequal, the upper pair joined; uppermost stamen in each flower free, all anthers alike; ovaries with 3-10 ovules; styles thickened distally, flattened below the small capitate stigma. Pods linear oblong, obliquely grooved between the seeds.
Cajanaus is a genus of about 34 species. Most are native to India and Australia. One species, Cajanus cajan, is cultivated throughout the tropics, including in Somaliland and Somalia.
