Plants lianas, perennial. Leaves petiolate, glabrous or pubescent, variable in size and shape. Inflorescences axillary, of few to many cymes, usually bracteate. Sepals often pubescent outside, slightly to much enlarged in fruit; corollas campanulate, funnelform or tubular, entire to deeply lobed, pubescent between the folds; stamens included or exserted; styles 2-lobed. Fruits fleshy, leathery or mealy berries, ellipsoid to globose.
Argyreia includes about 90 species. It is native to the Old World tropics.
