Aloe luntii grows on semi-desert flats, on gypsum, at about 900 m. In the Flora of Somalia, Lavranos attributed Aloe luntii to Yemen (Hadhramaut), and Oman (Dhofar). and region N2 of the Flora of Somalia. In a later paper (McCoy and Lavranos 2007, Hazeltonia 13: 29-33), they restricted Aloe luntii to Yemen, placing the Somaliland plants in Aloe kahinii. The two species differ in the length of their stems, color and surface of their leaves, inflorescence length, and color of their leaf exudate.
The description above is based on that in the Flora of Somalia but has been amended to reflect the information in McCoy and Lavranos (2007).
