Plants caulescent, shrubby, branched from the base; stems 50-100 cm long, decumbent to erect. Leaves 10-20, forming a lax rosette covering the apical 30-35 cm of the stem, about 30 cm long and 6 cm wide, dull green or glaucous with a few spots; margins toothed; teeth 2-3 mm long, 8-10 mm apart, triangular, sharp. Inflorescences to 60 cm tall, spreadingly branched; branches to 18 cm long, flower-bearing portion cylindrical, flowers not dense; bracts about 3 mm long, 2 mm wide; pedicels 10-15 mm long. Flowers red or yellow, nutant to subsecund; perianth 26-30 mm long, 8 mm wide across the ovary, outer tepals free for about 12 mm; anthers exserted about 3 mm; ovary about 6 mm long, 3 mm wide; stigma exserted about 4 mm.
Aloe hildebrandtii grows in Juniperus-Pistacia forest on limestone at elevations of 1150-1700 m. It is known only from regions N1 and N2 of the Flora of Somalia.
