Plants shrubs, to 5 m tall, strongly spiny; branches usually more or less arched and recurved, whitish to brownish. Leaves shortly pubescent all over; petioles 1-2(-5) mm long; blades 1-2 cm long, 0.6-1.2 cm wide, elliptic to oblong, bases symmetric or almost so, margins finely crenulate to subentire, tips rounded. Inflorescences few-flowered clusters. Flowers finely pubescent, white to yellowish; sepals about 1.5 mm long; petals 1-1.5 mm long. Drupes 7-10 mm in diameter, becoming blackish.
Ziziphus hamur grows in bushland and semidesert scrub, often along rivers or wadis, from sea-level to 730 m. It is known from regions N1-3, C1,2 and S1 of the Flora of Somalia and eastern Ethiopia and northestern Kenya.
