Plants spreading annuals up to 50 cm tall. Leaves with rachises (including petioles) up to 30 mm long; petioles 8-20 mm long; leaflets 3-5(-7), opposite, oblong-oblanceolate, 10-30 mm long, 3-10 mm wide, lower surfaces silvery strigose, upper surfaces sparsely strigose to glabrous. Racemes dense, with many flowers,shortly pedunculate, shorter than or equalling the subtending leaves. Calyces 2-3 mm long, deeply divided, silvery; banner petals strigulose outside; stamens 3-4 mm long. Pods flattened, about 15 mm long and 3 mm wide, deflexed, curved, appearing jointed, strigose; seeds 5-9.
Indigofera hochstetteri grows in grassland on sandy grown at 0-1500 m. It is known from regioins N1, N3, C1, and S1-3 of the Flora of Somalia, also from Djibouti, Ethiopies and westwards to Mali rhrough eastern Africa to Pakistan and India.
