Plants shrubs or subshrubs. Leaves entire or almost so. Inflorescences spikes, racemes, or thyrses, with 2 bracteoles. Calyces campanulate, 5-lobed; corollas 2-lipped; tubes short; upper lips long and arching, entire or 2-fid at the tips; lower lips narrower than upper lips, 3-lobed; stamens 2, exserted beyond the corolla tubes but held under the upper corolla lip; anthers 2-celled with 1 cell a little above the other; ovaries with 2 ovules per cell; styles long exserted from the corolla tubes; stigmas minutely 2-fid or entire. Capsules obovoid, usually 4-seeded; seeds flattened.
Anisotes includes 15 species. They are native to tropical and southern Africa, Madagascar, and tropical Arabia.
One species is known to be present in Somaliland, Anisotes trisulcatus; two more are known from Somalia.
