Flowers pedicellate to subsessile; calyces 5-partite, lobes more or less equal; corollas salverform or funnel-shaped, tubes cylindrical, with 2 geniculations; lobes 5, subequal; stamens 2, inserted in the corolla tubes at the upper geniculation; anther thecae fully confluent with a slight constriction in the middle, longitudinally dehiscent; ovaries ovoid; styles filiform, glabrous; stigmas capitate, oblique. Fruits capsules, laterally compressed, orbicular to ovate in outline, septicidally dehiscent; seeds numerous, with a scarious wing around the margin or sometimes only in the funicular region.
