Plants herbs or subshrubs, covered by long, glandular hairs. Leaves alternate except in seedlings, petiolate, toothed. Inflorescences of solitary, paired, or clustered axillary flowers. Flowers 5-merous; calyces deeply 5-lobed; corollas with cylindric tubes and slightly 2-lipped limbs; stamens 4; anthers with 2 confluent thecae; ovaries 2-celled, with numerous ovules; styles filiform; stigmas short. Fruits sharply beaked, septicidal capsules, the tip of each valve with a short, longitudinal split; seeds minute, numerous, longitudinally ribbed.
Camptoloma includes 3 species, one on the Canary Islands, one in Angola and Namibia, and one in the Horn of Africa.
