Plants small, bushy shrubs. Leaves entire, opposite. Inflorescences spikelike, bracteate,usually with 2-3 flowers in each ultimate partial inflorescence, occasionally only 1. Flowers bisexual, 5-merous; tepals all similar but the inner 3 slightly shorter and narrower, all with 2 long, barbellate hairs; stamens 5, united below, alternating with quadrate or oblong pseudostaminodes; pseudostaminodes with fimbriate scales on their backs; ovaries with 1 ovule; styles filiform; stigmas capitate. Fruits thin-walled, rupturing capsules enclosed by the persistent perianths and bracteoles.
Sericomopsis is a genus of 2 species, both native to East Africa. One, Sericocomopis pallida, grows in both Somaliland and Somalia.
