Plants shrubs or subshrubs, with stellate hairs, monoecious. Leaves usually alternate. Inflorescences terminal, usually pedunculate heads of male flowers with 1-6 female fllowes as the base. Male flowers: calyces valvatedly 3-4-lobed; petals and discs absent; stamens (4-)6-8(-10), sometimes inflexed; anthers longitdunally dehiscent; pitillodes present. Female flowers: sepals 4-6, entire or pinnattely or bipinnately divided; petals absent; discs annual, subentire; ovaries 3-celled; ovules solitary the ovary cells; styles much divided. Fruits deeply 3-lobed capsules; seeds ovoid-subgloboes, smooth; caruncles absent.
Cephalocroton includes four species. They are native to Africa and Madagascar. Only one species, Cephalocroton cordofanus, is known from Somaliland and Somalia. It grows in both countries.
