Plants trees, shrubs, or lianas, unarmed. Leaves bipinnate; leaflets obtuse, sometimes murcronate. Inlorescences spikelike racemes or true spikes, bisexual or polygamous. Calyces 5-lobed; petals 5, free or nearly so; stamens 10, fee; anthers with deciduous apical glands. Pods stiaght or curved. flat, with thickened sutures, at maturity the valves splitting transversely int 1-seeded segments with the inner layer (endocarp) persisting around the seed and separating from the outer layer (exocarp; sutures persisent as a continuous but empty frame.
Entada includes about 32 species. Two species grow in Somaliland, one of which, Entada leptostachya, also grows in Somalia
