Plants herbs or shrubs, with stellate hairs, Leaves simple, pinnately veined. Inflorescences dense to open cymes, sometimes aggregated in spikelike or corymblike clusters; bracteoles present, just below the calyces. Flowers bisexual; calyces bell-shaped, 5-lobed; petals 5, more or less persistent; stamens 5, filaments usually united into a tube, rarely free; staminodes absent; ovaries 1-celled, with 2 ascending ovules; styles 1 per flower, somewhat eccentric. Fruits 2-valved capsules with 1(-2) seeds.
Waltheria is a genus of about 55 species, most of which are native to Tropical America. There are two species known from Somalia, one from Somaliland.
