Plants climbing, prostrate or erect herbs or subshrubs. Leaves usually pinnately, rarely subdigitately, compound with 1 or 3 leaflets; leaflets with yellow or orange glandular dots at least on the lower surfaces. Inflorescences axillary or terminal, racemose or paniculate; bracteoles absent. Flowers spreading; calyces 5-lobed, lobes unequal, upper pairs more or less jpined; corollas usually yellow, with purplish lines;uppermost stamen fee; anthers uniform; ovaries with (1-)2 ovules; styles glabrous, usually stiff distally. Pods almost circular to narrowly oblong, compressed, pubescent; seeds 1-2; hila rounded to shortly elongate; funicles inserted at midde of hila.
Rhynchosia includes about 200 species. They grow throughout the tropics and subtropics. There are 16 species of Rhynchosia in Somaliland and Somalia.
