Plants perennial. Leaves: ligules a line of heirs. Inflorescences axiallry, single rames composed of units consisting of 2 pedicellate and 1 sessile spikelets, 1 sessile and 1 pedicellate spikelets, or, rarely of 1 sessile and 2 pedicellate spikelets; internodes, stout, thickening distally. Sessilespikelets flat across the back; calluses truncate with tentral pegs; lower glumes subcoriaceous, 2-keeled, densely ciliate on the back and keels; lower florets male, with hyaline lemmas and paleas; upper florets entire lemmas, unawned. Pedicllate spikelets similar to the sessile or smaller, without a tail; pedicels free, resembling the internodes. Caryopses oblong, terete.
Lasiurus includes only one species, Lasiurus scindicus.It is native across northern Africa and the Arabian Peninsular to western India, including Somaliland and northern Somalia.
