Plants usually trees, sometimes with many stems, the bark rough but not flaking; branchlets grey- to purplish-brown. The stipular spines vary from hooked to straight and from all less than 7 mm long, to all more than 6 cm long, or a mix. Leaves are bipinnate with 1-9(17) primary leaflets each of which has 4-35 small 0.5-4 mm long and 0.25-1.25 mm wide) secondary leaflets. Inflorescences capitate on peduncles up to 2.5(3.5) cm long. Flowers are white or cream, with calyces up to 1 mm long and corollas about 3 mm long. Pods are straight, 2-12 cm long and 0.7-1.5(2.2.) cm wide, dehiscent, brown to purplish in color with oblique veins that converge to become longitudinal in the middle of the valves.
