Plants shrubs or trees up to 10 m or more tall, usually more or less spiny but sometimes unarmed; bark dark grey, fissured; branchlets reddish to browhish. Leaves: petioles 2-13 mm long, glabrous or puberulous; blades ovate, 2-9 cm long, 1.5-6 cm wide, bases often asymmetrical, margins serrulate or crenulate, tips usually acute to acuminate. Inflorescences of few- to many-flowered cymes. Flowers glabrous, yellowish green; sepals 1.5-2 mm long; petals 1-1.5 mm long. Drupes 10-15 mm in diameter, reddish at maturity.
Ziziphus mucronata grows in woodlands and bushlands, often along rivers or wadis, at 1300-1400 m. It is native to tropical and southern Africa and Madagascar. It was reported from from regions N1-3, C2 and S1-3 of the Flora of Somalia and from Djibouti.
The plants from Somaliland and Somalia belong to Ziziphus mucronata subsp. mucronata. Ziziphus mucronata subsp. rhodesica has brownish hairs on its leaf blades and grows from Zambia southward.
Waa geed ama geed-gaab. Caleemihiisu labada dhanba waa isku midab, labada dhan midna kuma laha timo/xaad, marka laga reebo xididka dhex mara caleenta. Caleentiisu waa mid af-yuuban. Midhuhu waa kuwo hilboon oo dhexroor ahaan ah 10 -15 mm, oo marka ay bislaadaan casaada.
