Plants trees. Leaves petiolate, simple; petioles 2-25 mm long; blades lanceolate to elliptic or narrowly ovate, 3.5-12 cm long, 1-5 cm wide, densely pinnately veined; bases cuneate, tips obtuse to shortly acuminate. Inflorescences 5-10 cm in diameter. Flowers with a hypanthium; hypanthia (including pedicel-like lower part) and calycestogether 3-6 mm long; stamens 4-6 mm long. Fruits subglobose to ellipsoid, 7-12 (20) mm in diameter.
Syzygium gunineense grows in woodland and bushland, usually in riverine areas or or near water holes etc, at 50 - 1500 m. It is known from regions N1 and S3 of the Flora of Somalia and is widespread elsewhere in in tropical and southern Africa.
