Plants shrubs or trees up to 5(-10) m tall; young branches pubescent with rust-colored hairs, older parts grey to dirty white, glabrous, with pale white lenticels. Leaves petiolate; petioles 2-5 mm long; blades elliptic-oblong to obovate, 3.5-8(-19.5) cm long, 2-4(-12.5 cm wide), lower surfaces white tomentose, upper surfaces glossy green and glabrous or almost so above, bases asymmetrical, margins crenate to serrate, tips rounded to acute.
