Plants woody climbers. Leaves pinnately compounds, with 3-leaflets. Calyces 5-lobed, 2-lipped, the upper 2 lobes united to form a slightly emarginate tip, the lower 3 lobes rounded-triangular. Banner petals with a pair of of large, stiff, erect parallel appendages near the base; keels incurved, scarcely beaked; stamens 10, the uppermost free; anthers uniform; styles long, incurved, inner side usually barbellate distally, with a reflexed appendage distal to the stigma. Pods linear-oblong, dehiscent.
Vatovaea includes only 1 species, Vatovaea pseudolablab. It grows in both Somaliland and Somalia.
