Plants shrubs or trees up to 10 m tall; young branchlets glabrous. Leaves phyllopodic, simple, 8-22 cm long, 0.5-1.4 cm wide, straight to slightly falcate, pinnately veined, with a single main longitudinal vein and many fine secondary veins. Inflorescences pedunculate and capitate on axillary racemes; peduncles 6-22 mm long; heads more than 6.5 mm in diameter. Flowers bright yellow. Legumes straight to slightly falcate, 5.5-15 cm long. 0.5-0.6 cm wide, margins slightly constricted between some of the seeds.
Acacia saligna is native to Australia but us widely cultivated around the world.
There may be other species of Acacia sens. str. in Somaliland and Somalia. Those suspecting that they have a different species from Acacia saligna should consult the online version of the Flora of Australia.
