Plants evergreen shrubs or trees up to 12 m tall; young shoots glabrous. Leaves alternate to subopposite or opposite, sometimes in whorls; petioles 0.1-0.3 cm long; blades dark green and glossy, variable in shape and size, up to 11 cm long and 4 cm wide; lower surfaces glabrous, secondary veins less prominent than on upper surfaces but often conspicuous because of their pinkish color; upper surfaces with subprominent secondary veins, tertiary veins usuallyindistinct, particularly on the lower surfaces.
