Plants trees 2-8 m tall, with a forked trunk, producing a red resin. Leaves in dense rosettes at the ends of the bratnches, linear, 40-60 cm long, up to 3 cm wide, thick, rigid, entire-margined, narrowing gradually to the acute tip, flat to concave above, rounded on the lower side, keeled distally. Panicle 50 cm long, highly branched, glabrous or pubescent. floral bracts minute, ovate-lanceolate. Pedicels clustered, 2-4 mm long, articulated at midlength, glabrous or pubescent; tepals 4-6 mm long, linear, whitish, forming a very short floral tube. Stamens somewhat shorter than the tepals, with flattened filaments. Ovary olblong, shortly stipitate. Berries 10-12 mm in diameter.
HABITAT: Bushlland or woodland, usually on limestone, at 1000-1800 m. The IUCN comments that it appears to be in decline throughout its range.
