Plants erect herbs with glandular pubescence. Leaves alternate, entire. Inflorescences of solitary, axillary, pedicellate flowers; bracteoles present. Flowers 5-merous; calyces 5-lobed, lobes linear; corollas blue to pink, 5-lobed; tubes funnel-shaped to campanulate, much longer than the calyces; lobes flat, subequal; stamens 2, included; filaments short, attached above the base of the corolla tubes; anthers transverse, the thecae confluent, glabrous or hairy; ovaries 2-celled; styles filiform; stigmas obtuse. Fruits capsules, ovoid or oblong, loculicidal and septicidal; seeds numerous, ovoid or oblong, numerous, striate.
Anticharis includes about 10 species. Their distribution extends from southern and western Africa to Arabia and western India.
