Yasim Nasir (1976) Valerianaceae in Flora of Pakistan 101:1-21
Plants 13-42 cm tall, glabrous to subglabrous. Rootstocks with long and stout roots. Stems solitary or 2-together; nodes minutely pilose.Radical leaves few at fruiting time, broadly ovate-oblong or elliptic-oblong to suborbiculate, usually lyrately pinatisect with 1-4 pairs of lateral lobes; lateral lobes oblong, otuse; cauline leaves similar but with longer lanceolate or linear-lanceoalte segments; segments 1-5 pairs, sometimes slightly serrate. Inflorescences dishotomous corymbs; upper bracts landecolate to oblong lanceolate, 1.5-2 mm long.Flowers pinkish white; stugmas (2)-3-fid. Achenes glabrous or sparsely to densely pilose, longer than the upper bracts, sometimes with reddish dots; pappus segments 9-12.
Valeriana jaeschkei grows in Gilgit, Balltistan, and Kashmir. It is usually found in rock crevices or screes at elevations from 2600-4600 m. It has two varieties which differ as follows:

Valeriana jaeschkei var. kaschmieriensis is known only from Sonamurg, where it grows at 2700 m.
