Evergreen tree; bark deeply fissured; branchlets slender, pendulous. Leaves imparripinnate, 19-14-foliolate,glabrous or almost so; rhachis not or very narrowly winged; leaflets linear-lanceolate, up to 6 cm long and 8 mm wide,margins entire or serrate, tip acuminate. Panicles pendulous, puberulous. Petals whitish, about 2 mm long. Drupes 5-7 mm in diameter, shiny, rosy-red, smelling and tasting of peppercorns.
Schinnus molle is native to South America but it is planted as a shade tree in arid tropical and warm temperate regions. It is drought resistant because it has a long, fast-growing tap root but it can become invasive.
