Thulin, M. (1993) Marsileaceae in Flora of Somalia 1: 14
Plants small ferns of seasonally moist places, with creeping rhizomes. Leaves on long, erect petioles; blades of four equal, wedge-shaped segments borne digitately at the top of the petioles. Sporangia borne inside globose to ovoid, shortly stalked sporangiosphores, these dehiscing by 2 values; sporocarps containing megasporangia, each producing 1 megaspre, and micrsporangia, each producing many small, motile microspores.
Marsileaceae is a family of three genera, only one of which Marsilea, grows in Africa. Its species cannot be determined by morphological examination because the collection is sterile.
