Plants small twiners; latex sparse, clear. Corollas pubescent on the inner surfaces; corolline coronas absent; gynostegial coronas of free staminal parts; anthers wings following the basal lateral margins of the anthers; anther connectives with apical appendages; pollinaria with a pair of pendent pollinia; stigmatic heads flat or conical, never extended into long appendages. Follicles usually only 1 forming per flower; seeds with a tuft of hairs at one end.
Pentatrophis includes four species, two of which grow in Somaliland and Somalia.
