Plants shrubs or small trees; latex white. Leaves in whorls of 3 or some opposite, evergreen.Inflorescences terminal cymes. Flowers: corollas funnel-shaped with corona appendages in the wide throat; lobes overlapping to the tight in bud; stamens included; anthers with long apical appendages; stigmatic heads coherent with anthers, shed with corollas. Follicles united until just before dehiscence; seeds numerous, tomentose and with apical tuft of hairs.
Nerium includes a single, variable species that is native from the Mediterranean region to China but is widely cultivated elsewhere as an ornamental.
