Plants trees, 40-60 m tall, with a narrow, conical shape. Trunks 1.5 - 2.5 m in diameter; bark fissured, light grey to brown; shoots greyish pink to buff0brown, smooth and blabrous. Leaves 4-9 cm long, twisted at the base to lie in a single plane on either side of the branches, upper surfaces dark-green, shy, grooved. Male strobili 1-2 cm long, axillary, ellipsoid, reddish-green;microsporophylls with 2 linear sporangia; microspores winged. Cones 7-14 cm long, 3-4 cm in diameter, solitary or paired, dark purple when young; cone scales falling 5-7 months after pollination.
Abies pindrow is native to the western Himalayas and adjacent mountains, from northeastern Afghanistan through northern Pakistan and India to cental Nepal.
Comparing the account in Wikipedia with that in the Flora of Pakistan suggests that records for Pakistan should be checked to determine whether thay are, perhaps, of Abies gamblei.
