Plants shrubs or trees, up to 10 m tall. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, 1-3 mm long, imbricate and half-clasping. Panicle branches raemelike, 5-10 cm long, 5-6 mm in diameter. Flowers shortly pedicellate, white to pink; sepals 5, ovate, about 1 mm long; petal 5, about 3 mm long. Seeds about 0.5 mm long, with a tuft of hair at the top.
Tamarix nilotica grows along the banks of rivers and seasonal stream in deciduous woodlands or semi-desert scrub at 0-1000 m. It is known from regions N1-3 and C1-2 of the Flora of Somalia and from Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, the Arabian Peninsula, and Israel.
