Plants hemiparastic shrubs or small trees, to about 7 m tall, glabrous, sometimes with pendent branches. Leaves alternate, evergreen., subsessile, rigid, elipptic t elliptic-oblong, 1-7 cm long, 0.5-4 cm wide, margins slightly thickened, tips acute to mucronate Flowers yellowish-green; perianth lobes triangular-ovate, 1-1.5 mm long; staminate flowers in cymose inflorescences with 5-13 flowers; pistillate flowers in cymes with 1-3 flowers. Fruits drupes 5-10 mm in diameter, becoming bright red.
Osyris lanceolata grows in evergreen bushland or scrub, usually in rocky places at 1340-2300 m in regins N1-3 of the Flora of Somalia and in Djibouti, Socotra, throughout Africa, southern Asia, and in the southern half of the Iberian peninsula.
