Plants evergreen trees, usually shorter than 15 m, bole straight, bark brown, rough, fissured, crown rounded, spreading. Leaves up to 40 cm long, with 8-18 pairs of leaflets; leaflets ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, strongly falcate, up to 9 cm long and 3 cm wide, glabrous, bases asymetric, margins coarsely serrate, tips long acuminate. Inflorescences axillary panicles up to 35 cm long. Calyces white; corollas white; staminal tubes pale cream flushed with purple. Fruits ellipsoid, 1.5-1.8 cm long, yellow.
Azadirachta indica, or Neem, is frequently planted, in drier parts of the world. It has many uses, producing hard, red, durable and attractive wood that is used for building houses, furniture, and as fuel. In addition, all parts of the tree are considered to have medicinal value. It also has an effective insect anti-feedant and one its compounds, the limononoid azadirachtin, is often used as an insecticide. It also planted as an ornmental species.
