Plants spreading shrubs, 1-3(-9) m tall, glabrous (in Somaliland and Somalia). Leaves stipulate; stipules minute; blades 4-10 cm long, with a clavate or subglobose gland between the lowest leaflet pairs; leaflets (2-)3 pairs, obovateilliptic to subcircular. 1-3(-4) cm long. 0.7-2(-2.5) cm wide, with rounded tips. Racemes elongate, axillary, with 3-15 flowers. Sepals with rounded tips; petals yellow or orange, obovate, 1-1.3 cm long; stamens heteromorphic, lowest 3 with large anthers, the central one with short anthers, lateral 2 with longer anthers, 4 stamens with medium-sized anthers and very short filaments; 3 uppermost stamens with reduced anthers, at least the lateral ones with obhastate anthers. Pods cylindrical, (5-)8-15 cm long. 1-1.5 cm wide, with thin, translucent internal septa; seeds many, olive-broan, elliptic to subreniform, 5-6 mm long, 3.5-4.5 mm wide, without clearly marked areoles.
Senna bicapsularis is cultivated for ornament or as a hedge plants in Somaliland and Somalia and sometimes becomes naturalized at elevations up to 1800 m. It has been found in regions N1 and 2 and S2 and 3. It is native to the West indies and South America.
