Plants sprawling or prostrate perennials; stems to 50 cm long, more or less woody except for the pilose ferile axils. Leaves obovoid, about 3 mm ling and 1.5 mm wide, obtuse-tipped, overlapping on some lateral branches. Flowers sometimes more or less terminal on lateral shoots, shorter than the subtending leaves; perianth segments about 2.3 mm long, oblong, bases and midribs hardened, tips rounded, scarious and slightly lacerate; anthers as long as the filaments, not exserted, tips acuminate; stigmas purple. Fruits not seen.
Anabasis ehrenbergii is recorded primarily from sandy places near sea shores at elevations of up to 30m. It is recorded from regions N1-3 and C1 of the Flora of Somaliaand from Sudan, Ethiopiea, Saudi Arabia, and southern Yemen.
