Plants perennial, prostrate, herbs, sometimes shrubby; stems to 35 cm long. almost glabrous to densely ubescent when young. Leaves more or less narrowly elliptic or lanceolate. (3-)4-12 cm long, (0.3-)0.5-1.5(-2) cm wide, gabrous to sparsely puberulent, also lower surfaces with hairs over the midribs, margins withh (10-)20-numerous forward-pointng teeth on each side, starting frm the base. Spikes 2-7(-12) cm long, with 4-22 flowers; peduncles 5-10 mm long; fertile bracts green to whitish, glabrous to puberulent, more or less broadly ovate, 22-35 mm long, 8-16 mm wide, tips with a straight to slightly recurved spinose tip 5-10 mm long and with (5-)7-12 spines up to 4-7 mm long on each side; bracteoles 14-21(-23) mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide; calyces more or less densely pubescent, uppermost lobes more or less broadly elliptic, 17-23)-25) mm lonf, 5(-7)-veined from the base, tips irregularly 3-toothed, lower lobes 12-17(-20) mm long with 2(-3) teeth at the tip; corollas blue, mauve, or bluish purple, (25-)27-35 mm long, tube 4-7 mm long, limb 12-22 mm wide.
Blepharis boranensis grows in open Juniperus forest, evergreen or deciduous bushlands, on rocky hills, often on limestone, at 1300-1800 m. IIt is only known from region N1 of the Flora of Somalia but also rgrows in Djibouti, Ehiopia, and northern Kenya.
