M. Thulin (2005) Satanocrater. Flora of Somalia 3: 396-397
Plants shrubs, aromatic, with scale-like glands. Leaves opposite, entire. Inflorescences axillary, of solitary flowers; bracteoles linear. Calyces tubular, shortly 5-lobed, the sepals keeled on the back, initially loosely united, splitting up with age; corollas 2-lipped to subequally 5-lobed, tubes cylindrical; stamens 4, included or exserted, united in pairs towards the base; anthers 2-celled, without spurs; ovaries 2-celled, with 2 ovules in each cell; styles practically 1-lobed, the upper lobe very small or obsolete. Capsules elongate, enclosed by the calyces; seeds flattened, rough.
Satanocrater includes about 4 or 5 species, all native to tropical Africa. Two species are known from Somaliland, Satanocrater ruspolii and Satanocrater somalensis. Both also grow in Somalia, as does a third species, Satanocrater paradoxus.
