Plant stems slightly succulent; latex clear. Corolla lobes with long slender hairs on the inside near the bases; corona gynostegial. of highly fused staminal and interstaminal parts; gynostegia stipitate, lower guide rail entrances papillose; pollina attached to the caudicles via dorsal ridges. Follicles 1 per flower, elliptic. winged; seeds tuberculate, with a tuft of hairs at one end.
Schizostephanus includes 2 species. One, Schizostephanus alatus, is known from Somaliland; none are known from Somalia.
