Plants erect, ascending, or hanging herbs or subshrubs, pubescent; latex clear. Leaves small. Flowers small; corollas cup=chaped; coronas urn- or cup-shaped, consisting of staminal and interstaminal parts fused for at least 3/4 of the corona length, sulcate, emarginate; gynostegium pyramidal, sessile or almost so; connective appendades triangular; stigmatic heads umbonate to floate. Follicles 1 per flower, thin-walled, fusiform, not winged; seeds tuberculate.
Calciphila includes only 2 species. One species, Calciphilagalgalensis, grows in both Somaliland and northern Puntland (Somalia), the other, Calciphila gillettii, only in northern Puntland.
